Favorite HBR "Imagining the Future of Leadership" Post #4 (Leadership Ten Years Ahead)

Jan 26, 2011

Bob Johansen describes a world of uncertainty that's a little frightening for out taste, but we thought the set of skills/competencies/roles he calls for given this kind of environment was interesting, and worthy of inclusion here:

  • The maker instinct
  • Clarity
  • Dilemma flipping
  • Immersive learning
  • Bio-empathy
  • Constructive depolarization
  • Quiet transparency
  • Smart mob organizing (see video above and weep with joy); and
  • Commons creating

Some of these are more intuitively understood than others, but many reflect the kinds of skills (many in combination) leaders we spoke with in our project struggled to describe. We hope to use them to engage current and aspiring community leaders in subsequent conversations.
